Our future

Since becoming part of the Co-operative Group we have created a strong fifth player in the UK grocery market, integrating strengths from both businesses to cement our position as the UK’s number one convenience retailer. We have doubled our share within the food retail market, and have grown from 800 stores to almost 3,000 in the UK.

Our top priority moving forwards is to integrate the two companies as smoothly and efficiently as possible – we are embarking on an exciting journey of change and development likely to continue into early 2011. This is something that will bring real scale benefits, enabling us to bring better value and service to our customers. There is a strong strategic fit between the two fascias and we look forward to creating a single business, combining the inherent strengths of both Somerfield and the Co-operative Food.
